In this, my second book, the Book of Proverbs is analyzed in such a way as to allow us to see, receive, and act upon the full counsel of the Lord on any of 100 topics. Hi, my name is Tom Clarke and I wrote A Topical Treasury of Proverbs. My wife Nancy and I live in Upstate New York; I have two adult daughters, Laurel and Becky.

In 2004, I was reading through the Bible in a year with my daughter Becky: Genesis to Revelation. She was a freshman at Messiah College and had read only parts of the whole Bible. I believed that by reading the Bible together, I could help her draw closer to the Lord and also impart in her a stronger understanding of the Bible. We talked on the phone each Sunday evening for two or three hours, discussing what we had read.

When we got to Proverbs in July of 2004, I was stumped because I was not able to adequately present the Word of God to my daughter. I could speak in generalities, but I could not state the full counsel of the Lord on any particular topic because the topics were so scattered.

Then I realized that I could write computer software that would help my understanding. I downloaded the Book of Proverbs to a Microsoft Access database and started analyzing Proverbs from a new perspective. Soon the book began to take life.

Now, four years later and having invested thousands of man-hours on this project, I can say that my effort was well worth it to me. I see the Lord's strong hand in the Book of Proverbs as the provider of Wisdom, and with Wisdom comes understanding, knowledge and discernment. All of the various topics in Proverbs, in one way or another, point back to the Lord.
