An endearing gift book that Christian women greatly enjoy

Inside book half title page I prefer to let the testimony of others do the promotion for this flower-based journey in love. Identified below are some of the many reviews, mostly from women, as they shared their thoughts on A Garden of Love.

This 8½" x 11" full-color gift book includes 30 inspirational messages. Each reflection begins with a look at the beauty of a flower that God created; using poetic prose and encouraging Scriptures, the emphasis moves into facets of love: softness, gentleness, peace, compassion, etc. If this is to be given as a gift, I recommend that you select one of the flowers such as the iris or cosmos with a statement such as: "I bought you this book because, after reading about the iris [or cosmos or other], I was so reminded of you."

Here is what Kathy who lives near Syracuse, New York wrote about this book of love that she gave to a good friend. She recalls,

"I do remember her real curiosity about the theme of the book – the connection between words of the Bible and the names of flowers. She is an avid flower gardener herself and a fervent Christian. I remember she seemed so moved by the photographs – we sat studying them for a long time, and her resulting commitment to visit the garden to experience the peacefulness of being among the flowers. It is a work of art and a treasure."

See what others have been written about A Garden of Love:

  • Jenny received this book as a Christmas gift from a dear life-long friend. In a hand-written note to me dated January 5, 2013, she penned these words, "I wanted to write you to let you know that this book filled an empty spot in my soul that I didn't even know I had. I love flowers anyway, but your book is so much more than this. It is just lush and lavish and abundant with all things pointing to our Savior on so many levels. Your writing is also beautiful: descriptive, instructive and so creative as you compare and contrast each bloom with some aspect of the Godhead. Many thanks for creating both this garden and this wonderful book to reflect in."

  • Mary Martha attends the church that is associated with the Gethsemane Prayer Garden; she was married in the garden in September 2012. Mary has bought many copies of A Garden of Love over the years as she just loves to give them away. At Christmastime 2012, she bought a copy of the book for each of her attendants at her wedding.

  • was given her copy of A Garden of Love from a spiritual daughter. On September 29, 2012, she visited the Gethsemane Prayer Garden for the first time where she stated: "I thoroughly enjoy this book. I read it as a daily devotional; it is beautifully written. I just had to come see the garden so I could experience it myself." She subsequently purchased an additional six copies so she could pass on the blessing.

  • Sally Ferguson wrote a glowing book review on February 18, 2012. She begins by writing, "Thomas B. Clarke grows 'A Garden of Love.' His work at the Gethsemane Prayer Garden at Faith Chapel in Syracuse, NY brings great satisfaction to the heart. Even more than being eye-pleasing, the thoughts Clarke has accumulated into his book nurture the soul. 'A Garden of Love' is a devotional that includes gardening know-how. The book is tastefully done with 8½ x 11 photos that capture Clarke's beauties in full bloom. Browsing through the eye candy becomes a soothing walk that transports you to the Gethsemane Prayer Garden." Continued at http://6497855.bravejournal.com/entry/80004.

  • , President of Missio University, is quoted on the back cover, "I am amazed at this book.""I was deeply touched by it. It is Holy Spirit inspired and wonderful. It seems as if the Holy Spirit wrote it through Tom. I love the common theme of God's love throughout it."

  • , teacher of a women's Bible study, wrote this on Amazon: "I love this book! The descriptions of each flower as they relate to God's love for us has left such lasting imprints in my mind of ways that God cares for me. Visual pictures like this book creates have great lasting impact."

  • Jennifer T leads a college ministry along with her husband. On Amazon's website she wrote, "My husband and I were touched by the depth of spiritual application for each flower. God's creation has so much it can teach us! A must read for anyone who enjoys flowers and desires to know the LORD more."

  • Connie Arnold, inspirational poet and author of three books, wrote on Amazon's website, "Love truly blooms in this book with the lessons each flower has to offer, along with appropriate Scripture verses, inspiring a feeling of Christ's love within as you read."

To summarize, this is the audience that seems to enjoy this book the most:
  • Most of the above are women; this book does not sell very well at Valentine's Day because we men are often clueless what our wives really want.

  • I presume that all of the above confess their faith as a Christian.

  • As I talk with those that purchase this book, they all seem to appreciate the intricate beauty of flowers. Some have told me they have a green thumb while others clearly do not; yet all would be considered flower lovers.

  • There seems to be an ageRange aspect: most women are 35+ years old. Possibly because many of the younger women do not yet have gardens.
